Rules for Engagement - Rule 7 - Break All The Rules

This might seem counter-productive but hear me out.

It’s important to not take the previous seven rules too seriously or obsessively, otherwise you sacrifice more important aspects of your life. Just like in any body swapping hit movie, you’ll learn that you’ve been taking certain aspects of your life for granted.

If you are focused on being productive, that’s great, but you could be forgetting your partner, family, friends, the fortune you already have or lucky life you already live. What I mean is these rules are effective at building habits so everyday you’re moving foreward but don’t focus so much on the future that you forget the life you’re living today. So take days where you do something for you and your loved ones. Have dinner with your family, spend the day in bed with your partner, get smashed with your friends down the pub and take a look around once in a while and take stock of how lucky you are and how much you have to be grateful for because it might not be there forever.

So this is the last rule in this series for a while. If I think of anymore, I can add to it later but this seems like a good place to end Rules for Engagement. So remember life is only what you make it so get up and exercise, think of what you’re doing now and ask if it makes you happy, eat well, organize yourself, don’t forget to rest and play and finally forget all these rules when you’re ready to live your life with those you love.

Patreon

I also wanted to let you know that I have created a Patreon account, Patreon is a membership platform that makes it easy for artists and creators to get paid. If you’re enjoying reading my articles or watching my videos (new podcast, In Context, is out now FYI) and feel like it’s worth something, you can subscribe to my Patreon for £4 per month. This will grant you early access to all my work before it’s released and I’ll be conducting regular polls so you can have your say regarding topics you’d like me to cover. If you have any other ideas for perks you would receive like merchandise or shout outs, let me know by emailing gtmediauk@gmail.com. If you cannot afford to pay £4 per month, please do not feel pressured into paying, your views and you reading this is enough for me, so please don’t worry. You can also simply pledge a one-time payment of whatever you would like to pay, this would also be greatly appreciated and would support the work I’m carrying out. You can subscribe or pledge here
